JUST THE DiSCS PODCAST:
THE MANGLER

EPiSODE 98.

"Have you considered the possibility that the machine may be haunted?"
"Oh yeah, Mark, that's the first thing that popped into my mind!"

The Pink Smoke's John Cribbs and Christopher Funderburg are on the Just the Discs podcast with host Brian Saur discussing on of their favorite subjects: Tobe Hooper going off the rails. Join them as they discuss where this tale of a haunted laundry press (and haunted refrigerator) stands amongst the other adaptations of Stephen King's iffiest concepts.

Don't worry: there's plenty of Ted Levine talk in addition to their sincere attempt to place the film in the larger context of the often misunderstood Hooper's filmography. The intersection of subtlety and sledgehammer excess that characterizes Hooper's work might have found its apex in this film that combines one of his most searing social critiques with some of his most bananas plotting and gallons of spewed viscera. It'll all leave you questioning what's bullshit and what's reality.
