DiNNER WiTH LYNCH:
Beyond Tetsuo.
"I see double. I can't tell which one is real."
The Pink Smoke’s John Cribbs and Christopher Funderburg recently appeared on the Dinner with Lynch podcast with host Bradley J. Kornish to discuss filmmaker Shinya Tsukamoto in the context of David Lynch, cult cinema, black & white nightmare-landscapes, parental anxiety and the repulsive attraction of violence.
The trio discusses not only Tsukamoto's best known work, Tetsuo, but makes a case for the greatness of a pair of lesser known films, A Snake of June and Kotoko. It's a raucous, free-flowing conversation that constantly takes bizarre turns and gets caught up in strangely personal asides - which somehow feels like a fitting tribute to one of the Tsukamoto's unpredictable and weirdly personal work.
