THE PUREST BURT:
Smokey & the Bandit.
Nobody's perfect. Even fervent cinephile and stunt-loving spectator John Cribbs hasn't seen a single Burt Reynolds movie between Deliverance and The Maddening. That's right: never has the smirking grin beneath that famous 'stache that commanded the screen in The Longest Yard, Hustle, Hooper and Stroker Ace (or called the shots in front and behind the camera of Stick) been reflected in the Pink Smoke co-founder's brown, cinema-savvy eyes. No Gator. No Malone. No Cannonball Run II.
Enter Nick Nadel, host of the podcast Movies My Friends Have Never Seen, to correct this inexcusable oversight. Nick had John watch Burt's biggest bootleggin' four-wheelin' CB-in' smash hit Smokey and the Bandit and share his thoughts on all its Southern-friend mayhem. Jackie Gleason's beer-bellied Ahab, co-star Jerry Reed's iconic trucker anthem "East Bound and Down," the legacy of the race movie - everything is discussed (and of course, John can't stop talking about The Maddening.) So grab a Diablo sandwich and a Dr. Pepper and join them on their journey to dissect this 70's staple and find out if John exits a new-found Reynolds superfan.
